IT projects and purchases valued at approximately BD 11 million discussed at 75th ICT Governance Committee Meeting

The 75th meeting of the Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC), chaired by Dr. Zakareya Ahmed AlKhaja, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Deputy Chief Executive of Electronic Transformation, convened virtually to review projects and purchase orders submitted by government entities.

Al Khaja thanked the attendees for their efforts and contributions. The committee reviewed several items, including the renewal of the enterprise agreement between the Bahrain Government and Microsoft, which allows government entities to access Microsoft products and services at discounted prices, optimizing government entities productivity and infrastructure costs.

The committee reviewed technical infrastructure requirements for the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf's virtual court hearings digital transformation project, which will equip courts with advanced audio-visual technologies and enhance network services and infrastructure. This will reduced ministrative costs and the need for physical attendance, benefiting all stakeholders.

The committee reviewed the Electricity and Water Authority's project to upgrade its SAP ERP system to a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, ensuring 24/7 access, security updates, and reducing the need for dedicated resources and services to support the system, and cutting long-term maintenance costs.

The committee discussed updated standards for purchasing computers for government entities to align with technological advancements in hardware and software, and to meet the operational needs of government employees. This update is in line with ongoing reviews and continual improvements to the committee's policies and standards.

The committee also reviewed and followed up on the implementation of decisions made in prior meetings.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Zakariya Ahmed Al-Khaja, Vice Chairman of the Committee and iGA Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Electronic Transformation, with attendance by Nawal Ibrahim Al-Khater, Ministry of Education Undersecretary for Policies, Strategies, and Performance, Dr. Khalid Ahmed Almutawa, iGA Deputy Chief Executive of Operations and Governance, Dr. Samia Ali Bahram, Ministry of Health Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, Ahmed Abdulnabi Al Qayem, Prime Minister's Office Director of Services &Information, Dr. Hessa Jassim Al Junaid, University of Bahrain Dean of the College of IT, Ali Mohammed Al Soufi, IT Consultant, and the Committee’s support team.
