IT projects and purchases valued at approximately BD 8 million discussed at 73rd ICT Governance Committee meeting

Chaired by the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, the Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee (ICTGC) convened its 73rd meeting virtually to review projects and purchase requests submitted by government entities.

At the outset of the meeting, Al Qaed welcomed attendees and thanked committee members for their efforts. The committee reviewed several items, including upgrading technical infrastructure and automating operations at the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). This initiative aims to enhance efficiency, optimize internal operations, and improve real estate services by upgrading the IT network to the highest standards and best practices.

The committee addressed upgrading and migrating the current Geographic Information Systems (GIS) network to the modern GIS Utility Network at the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA). This project will involve transferring legacy geometric network models to the ArcGIS system, including model conversion, customization, network integration, and readiness assessment, alongside detailed planning for the comprehensive migration to the modern system.

The committee discussed the scanning project at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Waqf, aimed at creating a digitized archive to streamline document access and browsing, ultimately reducing search time and effort. This project will help enhance document security, protect files from loss or damage using backup systems, and utilize cloud computing services in line with data protection and privacy regulations for archived documents.

The meeting discussed support and maintenance contracts for key government systems and applications such as the Performance Management System “Adaa” at the Civil Service Bureau (CSB), in addition to customer relationship management system (CRM), billing system, enterprise asset management system at the Electricity and Water Authority, as well as the National Health Insurance program’s (Sehati) system at the Supreme Council of Health.

The committee addressed IT network and Firewall security infrastructure upgrade projects at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, the iGA, and RERA. At the end of the meeting, the committee reviewed implementation of decisions made in prior meetings and discussed progress of ongoing work.

The meeting was chaired by iGA Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, with Committee Vice Chairman and iGA Deputy Chief Executive of Electronic Transformation, Dr. Zakareya Ahmed Al Khaja, iGA Deputy Chief Executive of Operations and Governance, Dr. Khalid Ahmed Almutawa, Ministry of Finance and National Economy Director of Financial Systems Development, Abdullah Ahmed Dhaif, University of Bahrain Dean of the College of IT, Dr. Hessa Jassim Al Junaid, IT Consultant Ali Al Soufi, and the Committee’s support team in attendance.
